1.How can transportation in rural areas be developed?
I believe the government’s intervention plays a considerable role in developing transportation in rural areas. The reason for this is simple. Rural areas generate much lower profits than urban areas. You cannot expect companies to invest their capital in rural areas if there’s no chance they will get it back. However, transportation in rural areas has social benefits that many companies ignore. Transportation can help citizens living there to have a better life, and it’s the only solution for their unbalanced development. So, the government must shoulder its responsibility to help every citizen no matter where they live.
2.Do people still drive a car if public transportation is free of charge?
I would say so because public transportation has its limitations. The intervals of the arrival times can range from five minutes to half an hour. This is unacceptable for people who are on tight schedules. Also, I think more and more people are willing to pay the extra just to enjoy the comfort of their own cars. However, I believe the car sharing economy has offered an alternative way to solve this problem. Those who are pressed for time can take a taxi or order a car from DiDi. It’s still greener compared with owning a car.
3.In what ways can traffic condition in a city be improved?
I think one of the primary reasons for traffic congestion in Chinese cities is that we have such a high population density. One neighbourhood can have more than ten thousand residents. And if each family is going to have a car, then no amount of roads can relieve the stress. That’s why I think Chinese cities must direct more money to help with public transport. That means more bus stations, bike sharing, and even more metro lines. Public transportation is not only great for traffic congestion but also beneficial to our environment. I believe that by encouraging people to take public transport, we can achieve a win-win situation.
4.How do people usually go travelling?
I think more and more people are travelling by trains. With the advent of high-speed trains, our cities are connected closer than ever before. Taking the high-speed train is both comfortable and inexpensive and you can enjoy better scenery than taking a flight. I think you get good value out of the ticket price. High-speed trains also make short trips around the cities possible. You can get to the suburbs in less than an hour and enjoy the weekend at a retreat. Taking a high-speed train saves you the energy spent driving and finding the right parking spot. It just works for so many people.
