When speaking of an environmentalist (环境保护主义者), the first person who comes to mind is my neighbor, Lily. Never have I seen (倒装句:我从未见过) anyone who is more passionate about saving the world than her. She is extremely enthusiastic about environmentally-friendly activities. Of all the things she has done to protect the environment, being a vegetarian is the most praise-worthy (值得赞扬的) one. There are only vegetables and fruits in her daily diet and she also encourages us to give up eating meat. She told us that raising animals for food could consume a lot more energy than growing vegetables and fruits so it would ease a large amount of burden on the environment if we eat less meat. Another reason for her vegetarian behavior is that she was told that the shortage of food may be improved by planting vegetables for human consumption instead of growing cereal crops to feed animals. That’s why she stopped eating beef, pork, chicken and other meat since she knew how much energy it would use. It was her selfless behavior that really impressed me (强调句:正是她无私的行为使我震撼). I still remember once when we were having a picnic together, everyone was interested in the barbecue, eating steaks and chicken wings but she took a mashed-potato sandwich and a vegetable salad. I know that being a vegetarian in China is nothing easy because there are so many cuisines cooked with meat but she’s made it. As environmental problems are getting more and more serious, I have a great admiration for her and suppose that we are probably supposed to take a page from her (向她学习), trying to protect our planet in everyday life.
