Overall,femalesmadeupahigherproportionofpeoplelivingalonethanmales,andthisdifferenceisparticularlynoticeableintheolderagecategories.Wecanalsoseethatthemostmonnumberofbedroomsinasingle-occupanthomewastwo.
Asignificantmajorityofthepeopleaged65oroverwhowerelivingaloneinEnglandin2011werefemale.Womenmadeuparound72%ofsingleoccupantsaged75to84,and76%ofthoseaged85orover.Bycontrast,amongyoungeradultsthefiguresformaleswerehigher.Forexample,inthe35-49agecategory,menaccountedfornearly65%ofpeoplelivingalone.
Inthesameyear,35.4%ofone-personhouseholdsinEnglandhadtwobedrooms,whileone-bedroomandthree-bedroomhomesaccountedfor28%and29.8%ofthetotal.Under7%ofsingle-occupanthomeshadfourormorebedrooms.
